Speaking with Purpose: Speech & Language in High School

UpWords LOGO2 2018 (1).png

In high school, communication skills become more refined and essential. Teens use language to express opinions, debate ideas, navigate social situations, and prepare for life beyond the classroom.

What to Expect:
High schoolers are expected to speak clearly and confidently, use advanced vocabulary, and adapt their language depending on the audience and setting—whether it’s writing an essay, giving a presentation, or texting a friend. They also use language to think critically, solve problems, and build

relationships.

When to Reach Out:
If your teen struggles to organize their thoughts, communicate effectively, or connect socially, speech-language support can help. Strong communication is a key to both academic success and future readiness.
